The development of AI sex dolls
At the moment, an AI sex doll is still a long way off, but given the current developments in AI, it is only a matter of time before we move toward sex dolls that not only fulfill a physical need but can also genuinely communicate.
Once that happens, it will again only be a matter of time before a sex doll can no longer be distinguished from a real person.
Our expectation: in 50-75 years, people will be willing to marry a robot or AI sex doll, and it will be considered normal.
That is, of course, difficult to understand, but we also did not expect mobile phones to become so popular in 1999. 20 years later, everyone has one. (1)
How much does an AI sex doll or robot cost?
As for the price tag: a Tesla robot currently costs 20,000 to 30,000 dollars. (2)
Our expectation is that, because a sex robot must not only be able to communicate or respond to input but also perform sexual acts, the price of a sex robot will be at least the same or even higher.
As time progresses, technology becomes cheaper, and the same is expected to apply to robots. (3)
Therefore, it will most likely also be the case in the future that robots become affordable. Or that, according to society's standards, they represent a relatively inexpensive investment for what you get in return.
Advantages of AI sex dolls
Using an AI sex doll can contribute to personal well-being by providing companionship and emotional comfort to people without a partner.
With advanced artificial intelligence, it may be possible for people to develop a fulfilling relationship with a robot. Supporters of companion robots will believe that they can help people who would otherwise bottle up their frustrations.
Moreover, companion robots can simply be an interesting addition for individuals and couples.
Disadvantages of AI sex dolls
The integration of AI sex dolls into society may cause concern and opposition among some people, mainly because of the potential problems that this new technology may bring. One of the main concerns is the moral question of whether intimacy with an AI entity can be considered infidelity.
Put differently: are you cheating if you have sex with an AI sex doll? Especially when robots become so lifelike that they develop their own personality.
It could also endanger human civilization; if every man and woman preferred an AI sex robot and no longer chose a real partner, birth rates would decline. If no one had children anymore, that would be the end of humanity.
Finally, there are concerns that having a robot partner could create unrealistic expectations when someone switches back from interacting with a robot to interacting with a human. Can you still return to a real person once you have become accustomed to a robot?
Some questions will therefore remain unanswered until we experience the reality of a world in which AI sex robots live alongside us: What psychosocial implications will this bring? Can a robot actually replace the human experience? Will robots cause humans to stop reproducing, and how will that problem be solved?
