The development of AI sex dolls
An AI sex doll is still a long way off, but given current developments in AI, it's only a matter of time before we move to sex dolls that not only fulfill a physical need but can also truly communicate.
When that happens, it will only be a matter of time before a sex doll is indistinguishable from a real person.
Our expectation: in 50-75 years, people will be willing to marry a robot or AI sex doll, and it will be normal.
That is, of course, hard to imagine, but we also wouldn't have expected mobile phones to become so popular in 1999. 20 years later, everyone has one. (1)
How much does an AI sex doll or robot cost?
As for the price tag: a Tesla robot currently costs 20,000 to 30,000 dollars. (2)
Our expectation: because a sex robot must not only be able to communicate or respond to input, but also perform sexual acts, its price will be at least the same or even higher.
As time goes on, technology becomes cheaper, and robots are expected to follow suit. (3)
So it will most likely also be the case in the future that robots will become affordable. Or that, in society's view, they will be a relatively inexpensive investment for what you get in return.
Benefits of AI sex dolls
Using an AI sex doll can contribute to personal well-being by providing companionship and emotional comfort to people without a partner.
With advanced artificial intelligence, people may be able to develop a fulfilling relationship with a robot. Supporters of companion robots will believe that they can help people who might otherwise bottle up their frustrations.
Moreover, companion robots can simply be an interesting addition for individuals and couples.
Disadvantages of AI sex dolls
The integration of AI sex dolls into society may cause concern and opposition among some people, mainly because of the potential problems this new technology could bring. One of the main concerns is the moral question of whether intimacy with an AI entity can be considered infidelity.
In other words: are you cheating if you have sex with an AI sex doll? Especially when robots become so realistic that they develop their own personalities.
It could also endanger human civilization; if every man and woman prefers an AI sex robot over a real partner, birth rates will decline. If no one has children anymore, it will be the end of humanity.
Finally, there are concerns that having a robot partner could create unrealistic expectations when someone switches back from interacting with a robot to interacting with a human. Can you go back to a real person once you're used to a robot?
Some questions will therefore remain unanswered until we experience the reality of a world in which AI sex robots live alongside us: What psychosocial implications will this have? Can a robot truly replace the human experience? Will robots cause humans to stop reproducing, and how will that problem be solved?
