Sexual hypnosis: Does it really work?

Sexual hypnosis is effective. By providing direct access to the subconscious, hypnosis intensifies sexual arousal, increases desire, removes inhibitions, and deepens pleasure. It is a powerful mental tool that is increasingly being used intentionally in intimate relationships and erotic exploration. Never misuse hypnosis, and always act ethically and responsibly.

This form of hypnosis works differently from what many people expect. You do not completely lose control of your body. It is more comparable to someone being put into a mental state, such as becoming aroused or, conversely, more relaxed.

You hypnotize or arouse someone with words of affirmation, increasing the likelihood of arousal and potentially reducing inhibitions. This can lead to more pleasurable and intense sex, but there is never a 100% guarantee.

The role of hypnosis in sexual arousal

Hypnosis affects the brain at a deep neurological level. Sexual arousal arises primarily in the brain and is not determined solely by physical stimuli. Through hypnosis, you bypass critical thinking and address the subconscious directly. This is where desires, fantasies, and arousal arise.

Through suggestion and focus, physical sensations are heightened, shame is reduced, and the threshold for pleasure is lowered. People under hypnosis experience more intense orgasms, greater surrender, and a stronger connection with their own body and their partner. Hypnosis opens doors that normally remain closed.

As with a wet dream, you don't need to become aroused by seeing things or being physically touched. Thinking about certain topics and fantasizing are also forms of hypnosis in themselves.

    Techniques and applications

There are several techniques for using sexual hypnosis, both in therapeutic and intimate situations. Below, we explain the main ones based on an article we consulted:

Technique: Hypnotic relaxation therapy involves relaxing participants through hypnosis, with suggestions that promote relaxation and calm.

The therapy was used to improve sexual dysfunction in postmenopausal women. Researchers used the Sexual Activity Questionnaire (SAQ) to measure sexual pleasure and discomfort (1).

Application: Sexual hypnosis is used to improve intimacy over the long term, strengthen self-confidence, serve as a diagnostic tool, or complement behavioral therapy. Hypnosis can also work as a direct intervention (2).

    Explanation by application

    • As a diagnostic tool - Hypnosis can help identify underlying causes of sexual dysfunction.
    • To increase self-confidence - Hypnotic suggestions can strengthen the client's self-confidence and sexual self-esteem.
    • As a complement to behavioral therapy - Hypnosis can be combined with behavioral therapy to address sexual dysfunction.
    • For immediate symptom relief – Hypnosis can immediately reduce or eliminate sexual symptoms such as erectile problems, pain, or anxiety.

How can you safely use intimate hypnosis at home?

    1. Make sure there is clear, mutual consent.
Discuss what you do and don’t want, and agree on a safeword.

    2. Set up the environment for a more enjoyable experience.
      1. Set the bedroom temperature (21-22 degrees)
      2. Light candles
      3. Play ballad music
      4. Tidy the room
      5. Make sure there are soft, warm blankets
      6. Have massage oil ready for a possible massage
      7. Set out towels
      8. Take a shower
      9. Make sure your sex toys and lubricant are within reach

    3. Start with ordinary relaxation hypnosis. Think of calm breathing, progressive relaxation, or visualization.

Only once this works well can you use it in an intimate context. Optionally, add a massage.

Use only general, positive suggestions. For example, relaxation, confidence, and being present in the moment. No controlling or forceful suggestions.
      1. Breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose, and out through your mouth.
Focus your attention on the rhythm of your breathing.
      2. Slowly tense and relax your muscles from your feet to your head.
Notice how each part of your body relaxes.
      3. Picture a peaceful, safe place, such as a beach or forest.
Imagine releasing all tension with every exhale.
      4. Softly say things like “I feel relaxed” or “I am calm and present.”
Always keep suggestions positive and safe. Continue for 20 minutes.
      5. Now slowly return to full awareness
Slowly move your hands and feet. Open your eyes when you’re ready.
      6. Discuss your experience
Share what felt good and what felt less good.

    4. Stop immediately if you feel uncomfortable.
Hypnosis should always be voluntary and comfortable.

    5. Use it to increase connection and relaxation.
Not to control behavior or make someone do something against their will.

It’s all about creating the right mood, atmosphere, and warmth, so you’re as open to each other as possible.

Remember: hypnosis is an option, but the best way to have more intense and more frequent sex with a partner is to know how to make your partner climax.
